Late Tuesday afternoon Sandra Willis, the mother of 17-year old Jade Beneby, rejoiced when she heard that her daughter had been found alive and unharmed at the El Paraiso Motel in the 1600 block of West Okeechobee Road.

“It’s not my job to question when God has given me my child back in good health and strength. All I can do is say ‘Thank you Jesus’ and be thankful,” said Willis.

Willis and other family members spent much of the day at the Delray Beach police department waiting for the latest developments. Willis said Tuesday morning started off just like any other day of the week. Her daughter left home just before 6:30 a.m. to walk to her Atlantic High School bus stop at SW 8th Avenue and 1st Street.

At 7:05, she sent a frightening text message to her mother asking for help.

“Mommy, help me please, mommy help me. I’ve done all I can.”

One minute later, she sent another text that made Willis’ blood run cold.

“As I was driving to the police department I received another text and it said ‘Mommy, I’m in the back of the car, a silver car, in the trunk, help me’,” said Willis.

A Florida Missing Child Alert was issued as police talked with family and the teen’s friends to figure out what may have happened.

Mid-afternoon police confirmed that Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents found Beneby at the motel but released no further details as to what led them to that location.

“Everybody is so happy everything is all right. Thank God that they found her,” Jade’s cousin, Pat Glover, said.

Police have not said if Beneby was with anyone or if arrests have been made in the case. A silver Mercedes was hauled away from the hotel by police who said Tuesday evening they were still continuing to investigate the case as a possible abduction.

During the hearing for 44-year old Orville Bullitt, his attorney asked that the hear be re-set because the state is asking that the arrest officer attend the hearing.

Bullitt, who was arrested earlier this month in Osceola County, has been charged with 144 counts of possession of child porn.  A judge set bond at $1.44 million or ten thousand dollars for each count.

According to the FDLE, Bullitt became a child porn suspect during an undercover investigation by FDLE’s Cyber High Tech Crime Squad. Agents involved in the investigation were able to trace images that had been shared online back to Bullitt’s home computer.

“The images found showed child victims in various sexual depictions,” said Addy Villanueva of the FDLE.

Bullitt has lived in Miami Shores, North Miami, Davie and Pembroke Pines.

When FDLE agents searched his home on the 7000 block of NW 12th Street in Pembroke Pines and found a total of 144 images of child pornography. Agents immediately became concerned there may be other victims who have had contact with Bullitt.

“We found other images that are unrelated to the 144 images that he’s currently charged with,” said Will Hernandez of the FDLE. “And in those are leading use to believe there are other victims here. Possibly in here in South Florida. Our experience has shown that people who typically own child pornography tend to be hands on offenders.”

In a ceremony Wednesday, Miami-Dade County officials including Mayor Carlos Gimenez, renamed the Arena/State Plaza Metromover station the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Station in honor of the late judge.

In 1976, Wilkie D. Ferguson became the first African-American to serve as a judge in the Dade County Circuit Court. Upon his appointment to the Third District Court of Appeal in 1980, Judge Ferguson became the first African-American to serve on that court.

“By renaming one of our Metromover stations after Judge Ferguson, we honor a remarkable public servant whose landmark rulings helped improve the quality of life for thousands of Florida residents,” said Miami-Dade Transit Director Ysela Llort.

Judge Ferguson served on the Third District Court of Appeal until 1993, when former President Bill Clinton nominated him to serve as a United States District Court Judge. Judge Ferguson served as a federal judge until his passing in 2003.

The new federal courthouse  in downtown Miami was also named in honor of Judge Ferguson.

Earlier this month Paul Gonzalez changed his plea to ‘no contest’ in the April, 20011 attack.

The couple was discussing final details about their divorce when Gonzalez lunged at his wife, Catherine Scott, and hit her with closed fists numerous times.   The judge, his clerk and Scott’s attorney, Michael J. Dunleavy, all witnessed the attack.

Gonzalez, 29, is facing four to 15 years in prison for the aggravated battery charge and up to a year for resisting arrest without violence, a misdemeanor.  Scott has asked for the maximum sentence; the minimum sentence would be just over four years.

Gonzalez’s sentencing hearing is expected to take several hours because numerous witnesses are expected to testify.

Bosh came back to life against the Sacramento Kings playing excellent defense and pouring in 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

He scored his points by shooting 50 percent from the field in a game that was almost a Welcome Back Chris moment for the Heat.

Bosh had previously said he didn’t mind his lower numbers as long as the team kept winning. Over the last six games before Tuesday’s against the Kings, Bosh averaged 13.8 points on 40 percent shooting.

But on the first play of the night Tuesday, the Heat ran their first play off the tip to Bosh and he responded throughout the night with a solid performance.

The one knock on Bosh since he’s been in the league has been that he’s not aggressive and can get bossed around on the court.

Bosh has worked on this part of his game, but told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel his recent struggles weren’t about lack of aggressiveness.

“It’s not that I’m not being aggressive in those games,” Bosh told the Sun-Sentinel. “I just missed shots. I don’t get to the free-throw line. I’m in a position where I’m trying to figure other things out. It’s not what it’s about for me right now. I’m trying to build for the postseason. “

Bosh will be key for the Heat when the New York Knicks come to town to close out the first half of the regular season Thursday.

Bosh will have to defend either Tyson Chandler or Amar’e Stoudemire of the Knicks. Either will be a physical challenge for Bosh, who will likely line up against Stoudemire.

The dancer, turned actor, turned photographer went behind the camera lens years ago to photograph dancers and dancing.

The exhibit, which opens Friday Feb. 24th at the Gary Nader Arts Center in Wynwood, highlights ethnic dance, hip-hop, ballet, popular dance and more from all over the world.

His pictures show how dancers move through space, capturing movement and stillness at the same time.

Gary Nader and Baryshnikov will be donate a percentage of sales from the show to Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program.

The Gary Nader Art Centre is situated in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District at 62 Northeast 27th Street in Miami.

The exhibit runs from Feb. 24th through March, during normal gallery hours.

FSU announced Wednesday that Savannah State University had replaced West Virginia on the school’s 2012 football schedule. Savannah State is a member of the MEAC and will get paid approximately $475,000 to be the Seminoles’ sacrificial lamb.

West Virginia’s $500,000 payment to get out of the series will pay off the Noles’ costs for Savannah State.

It’s a very tough pill for the Seminoles to swallow.

The Noles were set to face West Virginia at home this season and go to West Va. next year for a return game. WVU was expected to be a top 15 team in the FBS this season. Now, FSU has two Division I-AA, or FCS, opponents.

What that means is the Noles will have to win seven games to get bowl eligible this season instead of the prerequisite six games if a team only has one FCS opponent.

The Noles had inquired with several teams including Oklahoma, Boise State, and Texas A&M to name a few about playing this season, but apparently there were no takers.

It’s not the first time the Noles have had an opponent back out of playing them.

In 1999, the Noles were expected to win the National Championship coming into the season.

FSU was supposed to play Auburn University in the first game of the season at Auburn. The Tigers were abysmal and coming off a season in which they fired then-head coach Terry Bowden.

FSU and head coach Bobby Bowden were expected to lay the lumber to Auburn, but the Tigers famously backed out in favor of a matchup against a lower division school.

During the juvenile court hearing presided over by Miami-Dade Judge Cindy Lederman, the Department of Children and Families presented a consent plea which would require Marsee Strong and Edward Bailey to admit that they need assistance in raising their children.

In the plea is accepted, the DCF would set up conditions to help them.

Both Strong and Bailey were charged with child neglect after their son left the house through a rear window of their home. Police said the boy, who weighed only about 35 pounds, was severely malnourished and had bruising on his body.

Investigators said extensive interviews with family, friends, and teachers produced no evidence the parents had hit their children. They also claimed the boy suffers from an eating disorder, evidence of which was seen while the child has been in state custody.

According to police, Strong admitted to failing to protect her child from others and “not properly supervising him and getting him medical treatment in a timely manner.”

She did not dispute that bruising covered most of the child’s body.

Strong’s next court hearing has been scheduled for March 20th.

Officials at Tampa’s MacDill Air Force Base said Tuesday night that they are cooperating with the Spanish government on the transfer of the of 594,000 coins and other artifacts that were wrested away from deep-sea explorers Odyssey Marine Exploration after a nearly five-year legal struggle.

The company salvaged the treasure off the coast of Portugal and flew it back to Tampa via Gibraltar in May 2007. At the time, it was estimated to be worth around $500 million to collectors, which would have made it the richest shipwreck in history.

The treasure is believed to be from the Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes, a galleon with more than 200 people on board that was sunk in 1804 by British warships in the Atlantic Ocean while sailing back from South America.

Spanish experts are working under a veil of secrecy as they prepare to move the treasure later this week on two C-130 military transport sent to the U.S. for the purpose. Citing security concerns, no one is talking about the timing of moving the coins, but James Goold, a Washington attorney who represented the Spanish government told a federal judge last week the items would be trucked out of the secure facility where they’ve been stored and on their way to Spain by Friday.

“The U.S. Air Force has an excellent relationship with the Spanish Air Force and we are working closely with them to ensure a safe and secure mission,” said the brief statement from base Tuesday night, which included few details.

Odyssey officials agreed in court last week to give the Spanish government access and said the company would not oppose the efforts.

Experts were inspecting and inventorying the coins and artifacts and were on track to meet the timeline he cited in court, Goold said Tuesday.

“We’re on schedule,” he said.

The exact storage location also hasn’t been disclosed, but handling and conservation of the coins was performed by Sarasota, Fla.-based Numismatic Guaranty Corp.

The company spent $2.6 million salvaging, transporting, storing and conserving the treasure, according to earnings statements. But it is not expected to receive any compensation from the Spanish government for recovering the treasure because the European nation has maintained that the company should not have tried to do so in the first place.

Odyssey, which uses remote-controlled vehicles to explore the depths and bring the tiniest of items to the surface, argued that as the finder it was entitled to all or most of the treasure. The Spanish government filed a claim in U.S. District Court soon after the coins were flown back to Tampa, saying it never relinquished ownership of the ship or its contents. A federal district court first ruled in 2009 that the U.S. courts didn’t have jurisdiction, and ordered the treasure returned.

Odyssey argued that the wreck was never positively identified as the Mercedes. If it was that vessel, then the ship was on a commercial trade trip, not a sovereign mission at the time it sank, meaning Spain would have no firm claim to the cargo. International treaties generally hold that warships sunk in battle are protected from treasure seekers.

The company blamed politics for the courts’ decisions since the U.S. government publicly backed Spain’s efforts to get the treasure returned. In several projects since then, Odyssey has worked with the British government on efforts to salvage that nation’s sunken ships, with agreements to share what it recovers.

Hanley initially was seriously disgruntled about the move by the Marlins to move him to third base. The former All-Star shortstop didn’t want to move, but time has apparently smoothed things over, at least on the outside.

Ramirez is in Jupiter and working with the team as he recovers from left shoulder surgery and learns his new position. For the first time in his career, Hanley is saying the right things and acting like a team leader instead of a team annihilator.

“Now, I need to show I improved in the offseason, through the bad times when I had injuries,” Ramirez told MLB.com. “Mentally, I’m stronger and physically. I just feel good right now.”

Ramirez is trying to recover from an awful 2011 campaign that saw him hit just .243 for the season. He spent much of the season on the bench recovering from a variety of injuries.

The team is hopeful he can regain his former hitting self that tore up National League pitching just a few seasons ago.

Ramirez has already been hitting in the batting cages and has been taking ground balls at third base.

“We will have plenty of time to see Hanley,” Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen told MLB.com. “He seems happy. I like his attitude right now. Obviously, over a long period of time, not just Hanley, but every player has the tendency to be up and down. I think the attitude he has right now is great.”

Hanley’s offseason shoulder-surgery was performed by world-renowned sports medicine expert, Dr. James Andrews from Birmingham, Alabama.

Ramirez had a check-up with Dr. Andrews last week. Dr. Andrews cleared Ramirez for the season, but the Marlins have asked Ramirez not to dive during full-squad workouts that start this weekend.

“I know what kind of player I am,” Ramirez said. “I know what kind of player I’m going to be this year, because my body feels 100 percent.”

Ramirez and Reyes could form a formidable tandem for the Marlins for several seasons to come. It will arguably one of the most talented left side of the infields in baseball. But, there’s still one question that will have to be answered to know how successful the duo can be in Miami.

“The only thing is we’ve got to stay healthy,” Ramirez said. “If we stay healthy the whole year, it’s going to be a monster year.”
